Revlon ColorStay Nail Polish Review

The weekend is nigh..time to turnup..who am i kidding? I will be a little busy this weekend so no chances of turning up...what are you doing this weekend? I recently bought some Revlon Color Stay Nail Polishes in the most gorgeous colours ever and i could not wait to share them with you. I love Revlon products except the Revlon foundations which, surprisingly, break me out so i stay clear. The only other Revlon nail polish i have ever tried was the Revlon No Smudge Dry Oil which i bought a long time ago and is a must have for ladies who have never seem to have patience to wait for their nails to get dry...yes, i am talking to myself too..but that's for another post. This post needs to concentrate on the Revlon Color Stay Nail Polish which i picked up in shades: Rich Raspberry 250, Midnight 290 and Vintage Rose 310. I think these shades are one of the most gorgeous shades ever and i am quite keen to try out more shades..let's get started with the review, shall we?

Rich Raspberry 250

This is the shade i have been wearing for a really long time. I think purple is one of my favourite colours and it looks flattering on my skin. Just as the name implies, it is Rich Raspberry Pink shade which is also borderline purple. It reminds me of Pink Jewel tones not that i own any but you know, you never know. To me, this is a must have especially for transitioning from sunny weather to chilly ones because it can pass as a Summer evening shade or Fall Day to Night shade.

Midnight 290

Although the name describes it as Midnight and i quite agree..teehehe. Another good name should have been Autumn Night Sky because that's exactly what it reminds me off especially now that Autumn has come to stay with many a cold windy nights. It is a Deep Dark Blue shade. It is perfect for the Fall/Autumn Season and i really like how it stands out against my skin. 

Vintage Rose 310

I have to say i am absolutely impressed with the names Revlon chose for this nail polishes in this range. This is Rose Coloured shade but it has some deep accents of Pink in it which i really like. I think it is a colour i would love more in Spring but i have definitely worn it a few times this season. There is something so demure about this shade that makes me want to apply it when i want to feel feminine, classy and beautiful. It's a lovely colour which is perfect if you work in an office that is a bit conservative.

Packaging

I really like the simple packaging; it's nothing to busy and it does not feel cheap at all which is a plus. You also get quite a good amount of nail polish in the bottle ; almost 11.7 ml which is pretty generous and the bottle also clearly shows a full ingredient list but whether you can make out the tiny letters is another story. 

Formula

I like how light the formula feels but it is not light to the point of being watery. The good thing it is a "3- free" nail polish which simple means it does not contain 3 naughty ingredients that may damage the nails in its formula and the ingredients that are excluded include Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP which i think is laudable especially for an affordable drug store brand so thumbs up to Revlon on that.

Application

It has a good consistency and it applies without unnecessary streaking. I think the colour pay off is really good and you can get away with one coat although i am not sure how long it will last with only one coat. One of the main reasons i love this nail polish is the brush. I think many nail polish companies are really investing in good brushes and Revlon is on top of their game with this. The wand in itself is of average size and the brush itself is a wide brush which allows you get a coat of nail polish spread across easily with minimal streaking. 

Wear Time

I would say it lasts for about 3-4 days depending on what you do. I love how it still looks fresh as though i just painted it the day before. Mine started chipping on the 4th day mainly because i have a fetish for washing my hands and i wash plates a lot so that may be a factor. If you pair this with a nice Top coat, i believe it will last even longer. I don't mind its wear time at all as i am always keen to change my nail polish.

Cost

They retail from a range of £5.99-£7.99  and you may be able to get it cheaper in a few websites or stores. I think it is very affordable but i can't remember exactly how much they cost me because i got a few items in a deal along with it but you can find it here in Boots, SuperDrug, and FeelUnique. I think it is definitely worth trying out because they are good quality and affordable- a match every lady wants to always find all day evr'yday.

Top Powders for Light, Medium and Full Coverage

First off, I just want to say a big thank you for all the responses i have received from the Rimmel Makeup Giveaway which is currently here on the blog till October 31st 2013. I am absolutely impressed and I am considering including an extra prize so we can have two winners. I hope everyone has been having a nice week so far.. Today's blog post is about my favourite powders to achieve light, medium and full coverage and they range from drug store to high street brands. I think powder is one of the most common makeup item for many ladies and I believe it is one of the staples in my makeup stash because it can totally transform my very oily face to sleek matte finish with a few swipes of my brush..let's get started...

Maybelline Fit Me Powder in 315 Coconut

This has already been featured in a few posts on here (read full review) because I really love the Maybelline Fit Me Range  as they are very affordable and excellent quality for a drug store brand. I started using the powder earlier this year mainly as my makeup bag powder for touch ups. For me, I think it works out as a light coverage powder mainly to blot out any shine during the day. I have used this on a few occasions like a normal powder and it has worked out fine but it doesn't last as long as I would have preferred. In terms of being buildable, I suspect it may be buildable for people with lighter complexions but it is not at all for me. It tends to look a bit too chalky so I tend to only brush it on really lightly. Overall, I think it is excellent as a light coverage powder especially for touch ups when you are out and about. For ladies with darker skin than mine, I am afraid this is darkest shade..hehehhe. Note to Maybelline: Could you consider creating a few more darker shades for darker skinned ladies? I promise the Fit Me Range sales will completely soar..For real!!

BellaPierre Mineral Powder- Compact (Cafe) and Loose Powder (Brown Sugar)

Again, this has been happily featured here (read full review) on Fashstyleliv with its own cheeky little post. I recently fell in love with the BellaPierre Range because it is made from minerals which had very good skin benefits for my skin and very good coverage. Although, they are made from the same ingredients and formular, I think the Bella Pierre Loose Powder offers a medium to full coverage while the Compact Powder gives full coverage although you need to build it up as you go along keeping in mind that a little goes a long way. I totally love both powders but I prefer the compact version because I feel it is less messy to apply as the loose powder gets all over the place. Having said that, the compact version needs to be applied with a light hand to avoid looking overly made up or having the infamous cake face. Overall, it is a good powder to invest in if you want to splurge as there  are quite pricey.

MAC Studio Fix Powder NC50

I am going to be honest, the MAC Studio Fix Powder in NC50 (read full review here) has to be my all time favourite. I have gone back and forth and cheated with so many other brands but I think this makes the absolute cut for me in many ways. It is a full coverage powder which means you can ditch the foundation and work this on its own. Sometimes, I may use concealer but I tend to use this on its own many a time especially when I am off to work. I love the solid black compact complete with a mirror which is excellent to stash in your makeup bag to help any future touch ups. I have since stopped using MAC foundations because they are not for me but the MAC Studio Fix range (minus the foundation) is one I always come back to because it is very good quality and I think the price is affordable for the calibre of product you get. This is a winner for me any day any time although I wish it was mineral based like the BellaPierre but I guess that will shoot up its price so it's best it remains the way it is.

MAC Pro Eye Shadow Palette (Quad) Review

This is one little purchase from MAC a little while back in Debenhams (online).....How rude of me to just dive into the post like that! Let's start again- Hope you have had a lovely week and you are delighted the weekend is here :-) So, as I was saying, I had been very busy eyeing this palette from MAC, not that I own any MAC eye shadows. I bought this hoping that one day this palette will be filled with all my favourite eye shadows. I have only recently rediscovered my love for eye shadows after a really long drought of saving the eye shadows only for events and leaving it out from my everyday makeup routine. 



However, I started falling in love again especially with neutral shades that i can wear everyday having tried out a few quads from Rimmel London. Hence, I stepped out in faith, if i may add, to buy this MAC Pro Eye shadow Palette (Quad). As you may or may not know, one MAC eye shadow is not entirely cheap (It costs £10 for one pro palette eye shadow refill) so I reckon I would need about £40 odd pounds to fill this sexy little palette*gasps*. So, I will be saving towards it and adding it as yet another item in my wish list, which by the way, has not been decreasing as I never seem to purchase the items there. Maybe MAC will do a cheeky little sale or better still, I will keep my eyes peeled for when the bigger departmental stores that stock MAC have their 10-20% discount off... Ramble over, Let's talk about this MAC Pro Colour Eye shadow Palette Quad, shall we?



Packaging
The outer package is made of the usual paper packaging that most MAC products are housed in which is usually black. What beats me though is why it has the "Back to MAC" sign on it? Like seriously, they don't expect me to return the palette when I am done because i will never be done though no matter how battered it is. Unless of course, they mean the outer paper packaging which is absolutely fine by me :-). 



Contents of the Palette
As you can see it is a quad palette which essentially means you can fit in four eye shadows from the MAC Pro Eye Shadow range. The Palette is made from really durable hard plastic material and it opens and closes nicely (i think it has some magnet inside) without having to apply any unnecessary force like some eye shadow palettes i know*lips sealed on those for now*. It also has an insert which holds the eye shadow itself which is made from durable material but it also has a magnet built in so it slips back easily into the palette cover. The only thing i wish was for it to have a mirror but I guess MAC wanted us to see the eye shadows housed inside clearly hence the transparent lid cover.








Cost
To be honest, I am not sure why somewhere in my head i thought it was very expensive and it certainly isn't. AT ALL. It retails for £6.50 but as usual I waited for Debenhams to have their discounts and I got it for £5.85 with free delivery (what my silly self should have done should have been to add some pro eye shadow palettes to my basket). It is not a massive difference but like Tesco says "every little helps" so the change goes into my kitty for the MAC eye shadows. You can purchase this palette here on MAC's website online or walk into their numerous stores or counters nearest to you. I have just had a nosey on their website and they have some really nice Pro Palette Quads for £30 which looks like a bargain seeing that the if you buy them separately it will total about £46.50 but the eye shadows in those quads may not be all colours/shades you like or want.
