Urban Decay Naked Honey Eyeshadow Palette Review

I can't believe it took me so long to finally review this gorgeous Urban Decay Naked Honey Palette. I remember purchasing it last year when Urban Decay had a 40% off sale and I was so chuffed at getting it at such a bargain. I initially went to look at it in store when it was first launched but surprisingly I was not impressed by the looks of the sample palette (especially as it looked messy from various smudges from being on display). Thankfully, I decided to look at it again and read more review (+ watch YouTube videos) and let's say the rest is history.




Packaging
It comes in a beautiful honey-gold plastic casing which feels like metal but it really is just durable plastic. I love the design so much and it feels really well made as expected from Urban Decay. Inside the palette you get 12 eyeshadows, a mirror and a dual-end eyeshadow brush. The eyeshadow names are inside the palette and also on the outer cardboard package. It looks great in pictures and in real life. Most importantly it is great to use; it's not too heavy at all and I feel like it will travel well (I don't think I have traveled with it yet but I am sure it will be fine).

Urban Decay Naked Reloaded Palette Review + Swatches

I never cared for the packaging of the first Naked Palette when it was initially launched and I was not sure if I would love the eyeshadows inside. That's why I never purchased the Original Naked 1 and Naked 2 but once they launched Naked 3, I purchased it immediately and Urban Decay have got my coins at almost every Naked Launch since then (except for the Naked Minis and the Naked Smoky). I believe the original Naked Palette has been discontinued and Urban Decay launched Naked Reloaded around the same time but not necessarily to replace it. I eventually bit the bullet and here we are with the Naked Reloaded Palette.

Urban Decay Naked Ultraviolet Palette Review + Swatches

I am such a big fan of Urban Decay Naked Palettes (well, almost all of them) and I remember longing for and eventually purchasing the Naked 3 Palette. Since then, I have purchased Naked Heat (my absolute favourite palette), Naked Cherry and Naked Honey. When I saw that they had launched the Naked Ultraviolet Palette I was excited because I love purple so much but I was apprehensive about some shades in the palette which I thought won't suit my complexion. I watched quite a few reviews , checked out swatches and I knew I wanted it. I was emailed a 15% discount code from Cult Beauty  and the rest is history. Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette Review

I can't remember when last I was so excited by an eyeshadow palette launch as much as I was for the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette. It was launched last year and it went straight into my wish list. I popped into Debenhams to swatch it and I was completely sold. I was waiting for any store to offer a 10% discount so I could save a few pennies from my purchase. It never happened because it was always excluded from discounts and the stores that offered discounts had sold out. I just really wanted it and purchased it from the Urban Decay store in Kings Cross Station (which is fabulous by the way) and I have no regrets at all. I have to say this is definitely my favourite Naked palette from Urban Decay. I used it a lot last year when I got it and I am still using it at least 3 times a week. I have already made some slight dents in some of the eyeshadows and that's why I am so glad I take photos before using my products. 

Brief Description

Urban Decay describes the Naked Heat Palette as a warm eyeshadow palette that has all the shades needed to create sultry day time looks, intense smoky looks and everything in-between. I totally agree with this description and more. It is that warm toned eyeshadow palette that even cool toned and neutral toned eyeshadow lovers will adore because you can create so many looks from this palette. I lean towards warm toned eyeshadow palettes and this is one of the few eyeshadow palettes that I love and have some use for every single shade in it.

Packaging

I have always loved all the Urban Decay Naked palette packaging except for the Naked 1 which has a velvet/felt lining packaging (not the best in my opinion). I completely wish Urban Decay will change the packaging of Naked 1 because I will purchase it in a heartbeat. The Naked Heat Palette has a gorgeous sturdy plastic packaging complete with a brush. It is such great quality and it looks absolutely gorgeous. It is slightly heavy but I have traveled with it quite a few times and it's been fine. It has not been messy and the eyeshadows are well protected in the casing. It comes with a dual ended eyeshadow brush which I use a few times but I like to stick to my holy grail eyeshadow brushes. 

Shades in the Palette

There are a total of 12 eyeshadows within the palette and I love that they have names on them. The inscriptions have not rubbed off from the palette which I am happy about. The eyeshadows within the palette go from a gradient of light shades to darker shades. There is a mix of matte, shimmer and metallic shades within the palette and I absolutely love the combination. The eyeshadows include: Ounce (ivory shimmer), Chaser (light nude matte), Sauced (soft terracotta matte), Low Blow (brown matte), Lumbre (copper shimmer with gold pearl), He Devil (burnt red matte), Dirty Talk (metallic burntred), Scorched (metallic deep red with gold micro shimmer), Cayenne (deep terracotta matte), En Fuego (burgundy matte), Ashes (deep reddish brown matte) and Ember (deep metallic copper burgundy). I love the names of the shades and I think they suit with the eyeshadow shades so well.

I tend to use either Ounce or Chase as a brow highlighter and they really flatter my complexion. For everyday/work looks, I reach for Sauced and Low Blow in my crease. If I am going out or I want some extra dimension in my crease, I reach for He Devil, Cayenne, En Fuego and Ashes. For my lids, I adore Lumbre (a nice dent has already been made in this shade), Dirty Talk and Scorched. Ember and Ashes are perfect for smoky looks. The colours are so complementary and you can create a complete look with just this palette which is why it has remained my top eyeshadow palette from 2017 and till now.

Pigmentation/Longevity/Texture 

It's no secret that Urban Decay make great quality eyeshadows that have stood the test of time and they did not disappoint with the Naked Heat Palette. All the eyeshadows are intensely pigmented but (as expected), the shimmer and metallic eyeshadows stand out. They are just so gorgeous to use. I always an eyeshadow primer with every eyeshadow I own but I do think these eyeshadows will still last long with or without an eyeshadow primer. The texture of the eyeshadows are very buttery and soft to touch and apply. I particularly love that the way they swatch on my hands are the same way (and even better) when I apply them on my lids. I have experienced little fall out with the matte eyeshadows but it is very minimal compared to other matte eyeshadows I have tried. The best thing about the matte eyeshadows in this palette is that they don't feel chalky at all which is a huge plus for me.

Is it worth the splurge? Where to Buy? // Link //£39.50

I have to say a big YES to it being worth my coins. I will buy it allover again if I have to. I have been contemplating buying a backup because it's just one of those eyeshadow palettes I want to always have in my collection. I know there are so many warm toned eyeshadow palettes out there but this is one of the best I have tried.  The Naked Heat Palette can be purchased from the Urban Decay website (they offer free delivery and 10% discount to students). You can also purchase the palette from other retailers such as John Lewis, House of Fraser, Fabled, Debenhams, Selfridges, etc. If a website is offering any discount and/or free shipping. I will suggest purchasing from them.

Overall Thoughts

I don't think I have loved any eyeshadow palette as much as the Naked Heat Palette and I can't sing its praises enough. I still love my Naked 3 Palette but I have a special love for the Naked Heat Palette. Urban Decay recently launched a mini version of the Naked Heat Palette but if you wanted to try this palette out, I will definitely say go for the full size. You get better value with the full size. Eyeshadow Primers- My Top Picks

I hope your week has been panning out well and cheers to the Midweek! So, I have recently started applying eye shadows which was something i have selectively dabbled into every now and then. Since the past few months, I have acquired a few eye shadows that suit me and i have started building up my MAC eye shadow palette (post here). Funny thing is about two years back or so, i was a total eye shadow addict and i had quite a few eye shadow palettes ranging from Sleek to Urban Decay and even Rimmel palettes. One thing that has definitely improved my application of eye shadows is applying eye shadow primers before the eye shadows and i have tried a couple of them so this is like a mini review of my top eye shadow primers..

What is an Eye shadow Primer?
It is basically a primer or base which is applied prior to the application of an eye shadow to make it "pop" as all the Youtube gurus say every now and then. It essentially makes your eye shadow have a more vibrant look. Apart from that, it also makes the eye shadow last longer than it should. i find that applying a good quality eye shadow primer makes even a cheap eye shadow last longer and appear more vibrant than it normally should. Eye shadow primers usually come in small tubes for easy application while some of them come with duffer application brushes for a less messy precise application. Some people apply their primers with brushes but i always apply mine with my fingers as it warms it up and it is better blended that any brush i can ever use. Most of the eye shadow primers featured below are all sample sizes except the ELF one which is a full size...

ELF Eye shadow Primer
This was my very first eye shadow primer and i really like it. It comes in a small cylindrical tube with a duffer brush for a more precise and less wasteful application. As a rule of the thumb, you only need a very small amount of eye shadow primer because a little goes a long way and besides the eye area is usually a small one. The ELF Eye shadow primer has in a creamy white consistency which is easily spread around the eye area especially with its applicator brush. I love the quality and how inexpensive it is. For me, it makes my eye shadow last longer and it makes them a bit more vibrant which is good although i would say the quality is not comparable to other high end brands. I use this on a daily basis and when i am applying nude eye shadows

Benefit Stay Don't Stray Eye shadow and Concealer Primer
This is a dual primer as it can be used for both the eyelids and under eye concealer. i usually use it for just my eye lid. The Benefit Stay Don't Stray primer is one that i really like because it does two things which i look out for a primer; it improves the application  and appearance of my eye shadow and it helps it last longer. On many occasions, it has lasted all day and i really like that. I totally can't stand when my eye shadows look beat in the morning and around mid-day, I can't find it on my face :-(. This also comes in a tube with a duffer application brush which i prefer as it prevents excess waste. Its consistency is a lit it pasty but it feels light on application. It's excellent quality and its dual purpose endears it to the hearts of many including mine. I use this when I apply colored eye shadows and i really want it to last all day and stand out against my skin tone really well.

Urban Decay Primer Potion 
This is the ultimate eye shadow primer for me because it ticks all the boxes for me: long lasting; vibrant eye shadows and perfect eye shadow base. Urban Decay is a brand which seem to specialize on their eye makeup products. I love their eye shadows which are beautifully pigmented and last all day with our without a primer. They understand that the next best thing to a beautiful eye shadow is an excellent eyelid primer to follow. The Urban Decay Primer Potion comes in a tube which has no applicator or duffer brush which is a bit meh! but i still love it anyways. Just like other primers, a little goes a really long way. In addition, it prevents any creasing of my eye shadow which is an added bonus for me.  It has an almost pasty texture that may appear a little thick but it blends in really easily on application. I really like this and it is definitely my favourite eye shadow primer. I reserve it for special occasions because the full size is a little pricey but it is worth it.
