Latest in Beauty- The Glamour Power List Box

I feel like I have been away from this blog for a little while ; it's just because I have been very busy all around but I am happy to be back. I thought it will be nice to start off again with a beauty box. I love beauty boxes because it gives you a chance to try new product samples. Some beauty boxes are hits and some are misses but I really don't like to gamble which is why I don't bother with a subscription. My first beauty box was the Birch Box World Cup Edition (review here) and I absolutely loved it although I have not bought any other one since then because I found them a little underwhelming. I prefer to get a sneak peek into the box before buying it (I know, I know some argue that it takes away the surprise but I don't mind). Anyway, when I saw the Latest in Beauty Power List Box in collaboration with Glamour, I was excited and quickly scanned to see if there were any products that tickled my fancy and indeed, there were more than a handful especially a rather generous 30 ml sample of the Laura Mercier Primer and I was completely smitten and purchased it. I experienced a few glitches when I was ordering it but thankfully it was rectified. Next, the delivery was so problematic that when I eventually got the box (I had to go to the depot to pick it up and I was not a very happy customer in the least), I was no longer excited. Still, I was pleased with the contents (when I calmed down) which is why I thought it would be nice to feature it on my blog...

                                                      Contents of the Box
I don't think Latest in Beauty is a subscription service; rather it is a one off box which they feature every few months but I think you can still buy some products in their online shop. Also, you can build your own box which I think is much better as you know what you are getting and also build one for a friend or sis as a gift. For this box, they partnered with Glamour Magazine (UK) to build the "Power List" Box  (It is still being sold) and I particularly like these sort of collaborations as the products included are generous samples (and some full sizes) that you actually would use. The packaging of the box is really nice and it was stuffed with some black tissue paper to protect the box. I can see myself using this box to store a few things on my dresser and it feels quite sturdy. The total content worth of the box, according to Latest in Beauty,  is £83.47 which seems like good value seeing that the box only costs £15.99 including delivery. That's a barganicious bargain, if you ask me.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser +Muslin Cloth (30 ml)
This is my second sample of this lovely cleanser and I absolutely love it. I received the first one with my first ever Birch Box and I still have it. It is amazing for removing makeup and feels very soothing on the skin which may be down to the Eucalyptus content. I particularly love the muslin cloth that it comes with which I feel is one of the best muslin cloths I have tried. My first one is still going strong and I will keep this for my next short weekend trip.

Philip Kingsley Daily Damage Defence Conditioning Spray (60 ml)
I have never tried anything from Philip Kingsley so I was quite excited to try this spray out. I have not tried it on my natural hair yet (as it currently under a weave) but I tried it on my extensions and it smelt really nice and my extensions felt and stayed soft when I straightened it. I noticed it did not weigh my extensions down which is really good because I find that using too much hair products on hair extensions reduces their longevity and it weighs them down significantly. I look forward to trying this out on my natural hair.

Maybelline Nude Colour Sensation Lipstick in Sultry Sand (710) (full size)
When I first saw this on the website, I was excited because I love nude lipsticks and it looked a little darker on screen so I thought it would be easy to wear but I was wrong (I had no idea that different lipsticks were chosen at random for different boxes).  I know this picture makes it look like it would be suitable for darker skin but it's not. It looks a little ashy when I wear it but I find that using a good lip liner (MAC Cork) and working with it makes it a little wearable. But I like the packaging and the overall texture is not too bad.

James Read Sleep Mask Tan (25 ml)
Hmmm, need I say anything? I have never self-tanned and I don't think I would use this at all. One part of me is curious to see if it would have any effect on my skin..lol but I really think it would have a better home with one of my friends/colleague so this is one product I won't be keeping as I am 99% sure I won't use it. The 1% chance is only if curiosity gets the better of me.

Eyeko Eye Makeup Remover Wipes (10 wipes-full size)
I was happy to get the Eyeko Makeup Remover wipes which claim to remove even stubborn waterproof eye makeup/mascara and I am pleased to say it does the job well. However, you have to make sure you hold the wipes on your eyes for about 10 seconds because wiping off as if you go in straight, it may not take all the eye makeup off. It also smells lovely as it is infused with Grapefruit Extract and Olive Oil. It would definitely be perfect for travelling.

Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara (full size)
I already tried this mascara and reviewed it here so I am pretty chuffed to be getting another one as a back up. It really does make a difference to my little curly eyelashes which seem non existent and I love it. The wand looks a little bit intimidating but it does a good job of volumizing, lengthening and holding a curl.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer (30 ml)
I saved the best and star product to the end..to be honest, this was the major reason I purchased this box as I have been wanting to try this primer for so long but I did not want to spend almost £20 without trying out a sample first. I am happy to report that it is so worth any money spent and all the hype around it. It does a good job of minimising pores while making your foundation lasts and doe snot slip off your face especially if you have oily skin. I will be reviewing this separately so keep your eyes peeled.

Glamour Magazine Subscription and other discount codes
This was also a very generous and lovely addition to the Power List Box. I am a huge fan of Glamour Magazine because they have very interesting features and I love their freebies. Although I still love to buy magazines because I am old fashioned and like to thumb through glossy magazine pages, I still think it is nice to have an iPad subscription which is so convenient. I don't need to lug around a heavy magazine in my bag and the subscription is for one year!! There were also some discount codes and offers for almost all the samples included in the box.

Overall Thoughts
Despite how annoyed I was initially about the problems I encountered with the delivery of this box, I am very pleased with the contents and it is so much more value than the mere £15.99 I paid. Most of the samples are products I would actually use except the Tan Mask but I know someone who would like it so it is all good. I am not sure if this box is still on offer but it up for grabs in September and was still available in October which is when I purchased it. Tell me what your favourite beauty boxes are in the comment box and I will see you in my next post...x

  1. I was really pleased with the contents except the lipstick which is much too pale. I found delivery a bit slow but it was worth the wait :-)
