Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Review Shade 350 Caramel

Hi Lovelies,

I hope you are all well and happy to be starting off a brand new week! I have had a manic past week and weekend and I think I am ready for some peace. This post is about another foundation review but this time it is a Drug Store Foundation. I have got a few requests for a Drug Store Foundation review but I only have one drug store foundation. This is mainly because I find it really hard to get my skin match in both High End and Drug Store alike.

Anyways, late last year, Maybelline launched their Fit Me range which featured Foundations, Powders and Concealers all aimed at matching your skin to a T. Hmmm, I did not quite believe this because I have tried a couple of samples of Maybelline foundations including their Dream Mousse in some drug stores and they looked really nasty on me. I also think it may be difficult to get a perfect skin match because many Drug Stores don't have dedicated sales ladies specifically for each brand.  I know very large Boots Stores have dedicated sales ladies for some brands e.g. MaxFactor, Maybelline and L'Oreal Paris.

So, in my usual ways of getting free samples (find out how to get free beauty samples here) before buying the product, I went on the Maybelline website and put in my info for a free sample. I did not know what match I was but I answered a couple of questions which they asked. To be honest, I was quite impressed that they had a wide range of shades especially for women of color so I had my fingers crossed waiting for it to arrive in the post. I was not holding my breath anyway because it was free so no big deal if it was not a match.

It arrived shortly after I came back from Nigeria on holiday and I was amazed to find that it was actually my skin match. I was in shock!! It was a very good match and was very easy to apply plus the sample was quite a sizeable size (10 ml) which is 1/3rd of a normal full size. I think that was pretty generous of Maybelline.  Now to the review.

Maybelline Fit Me Range/ Formula:
As I said earlier, it was launched some time last year with a moderate range of shades in concealers, foundations and powders. The  Maybelline Fit Me Foundation range comes in 18 "breathable" shades (as they refer to it) spanning from the lightest shade Porcelain 110 to the darkest shade Coconut 355. I think Maybelline has done a good job in producing a nice range of shades to suit different types of skin tones. These shades are split into three categories namely:

  • Ivory 100's - 110, 115, 120, 125, 130 and 135
  • Beige 200s- 210, 220, 225, 230, 235 and 245
  • Warm (Dark)- 310, 315, 320, 325, 350 and 355).
This range is the first Maybelline gel foundation which has no waxes and fillers. It is also non-comedogenic and dermatologists tested which is quite handy to know. I would start with the concealer first before I go into the proper review of the foundation.

Concealer:
I got the Fit Me concealer because it was on offer in Super Drugs with the foundation and I think it is excellent quality mainly because it actually conceals my blemishes in a seamless way- I only thought MAC was the only concealer that could do that. I particularly love it because it comes in a handy lip-gloss like packaging which means I can throw it in my bag easily. The packaging has its own applicator so you can apply it to the particular problem area in a very targeted way. Excellento!!. My shade for the concealer is Shade 30. The concealer cost £5.99 in any beauty or drug store.

Skin Match/ Shade:
I was matched to a Caramel 350 which is my an excellent match to my skin.I was pleasantly surprised to find that it really matched my skin tone. I must mention I eventually bought the full size and concealer because I was impressed by the sample which lasted for a very long time. It does not need to be mixed with any other foundation for my perfect match. I think I have been lucky this year with foundations because most of them match my skin.Formerly,  I always had to mix MAC foundations which are quite pricey.

Formulation and Application:
It has a very smooth liquid like formula. It is not creamy at all but it feels smooth against your skin. I feel it may be water based but I am not sure. Applying it on my skin is a dream because it is really light and smooth at the same time. It is also easy to blend so no hassles and worry. I will not advise applying this with your finger tips though. It is best with a brush if you want to get a seamless application. One or two pumps of this foundation is fine so there is minimal wastage and this bottle can last for a good while.

Coverage and Lasting Power:
I would say this is a light to medium coverage because it is meant to make you look natural and fresh not made up which is good if you have very good skin. If you have blemishes or dark spots to conceal, then you may need to either buy their concealer or any concealer of choice. With a concealer, you have nothing to worry about. It lasts for a moderate amount of time especially when the weather is cool.I am not sure if this is the best foundation for oily skin but it does not give me much hassles and I do not get very shiny which is very good (maybe because I also use a matte powder to set it). For me, I have used it with and without a primer, I think the lasting power is about the same.

Packaging:
I really like the packaging because it is quite a classy little bottle. It has a nice pump which i love. Y'all know I cannot deal with foundations without pumps. I just think they are really messy. The packaging is really simple and it locks in nicely with a click. The chances of any spillage is minimal which is a good thing for me.

Cost:
This is very inexpensive and for the quality, I think it is an absolute treat. It retails for £7.99 in any local beauty and drug store nearby. I think the price and quality makes it a good and worthy purchase. It is not perfect at all but I think for a drug store foundation, it is good quality. I have not tried many drug store foundations but I think this is a foundation I will be sticking to.

Overall
I think this is a nice foundation for beginners because it is very easy to manage, affordable and widely available. Also, it will sit pretty on your vanity or dressing table because it has a classy packaging with a nice lil pump to control usage. This will last you for a long time as well. I have had mine since late January but I don't use it very often .  I  give this foundation 7.5/10 which is a good score. It would have been 10/10 if it lasted longer and gave better coverage for blemishes or dark spot but hey! it is a drug store foundation and it has other excellent qualities so it does not matter much..

I hope you enjoyed this post. I was bored during my lunch break and decided to take a nice stroll to Westminster which is just 5 minutes away. The sun was out and I though it will be a nice day to take pictures and I did.  See you in my next post...xxx
