MAC Dipdown Fluidline Eyeliner Gel Review

MAC Fluid Line Eyeliner Gel in DipDown is one brow product I always see pop up in many YouTube videos but I just could not justify buying it at the time. When I passed through Duty-Free recently, I decided to pick it up finally and in fact it was the last one available. Who knew it was such hot stuff? Anyway, I am so pleased I got it and I cannot even fathom why on earth I did not get it any sooner. It has literarily changed the way I do my eyebrows and has also reduced the amount of time I spend on them. I love it and now that I have tried it, I have my eyes on the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade as shown in my wish list yesterday. I heard the Anastasia version is much more long wearing which is very appealing to me.

Packaging
You know the drill by now: MAC has a classic black packaging which looks simple and functional. Dip Down comes in a small glass tub and plastic matte black lid. It looks like a small tub/jar which it is but it is quite sturdy. I was surprised that it weighed a little more than I expected but it is still portable to travel with. The lid closes really well so no spillage or accidents during storage or travelling.

Texture/Formula
MAC‘s Fluidline Eyeliner Gel in DipDown is really an eye liner as the name suggests but many people use it for their brows. It is a dark brown eyeliner gel which seems to suit many people especially if you have darker hair. It feels very light and smooth to touch. It also applies very easily with a variety of tools including a regular eyeliner brush, a slanted eyeliner brush and a pointy eyeliner brush. I particularly love to use my Nanshy Slanted/Angled Eyeliner brush* for it (not pictured above). It is just perfect as it fits easily in my hands and helps me apply the product with amazing precision. I also use a Wilko Eyeliner Brush which is surprisingly good especially as it only cost me £1.

Application
I always start with outlining my brows with the Soap and Glory Brow Filling Brush because I prefer to have a softer eyebrow look. Once it is well outlined, I go in with MAC’s DipDown and I just pick up the littlest amount with my Nanshy Slanted Eyeliner Brush*. I tap off any excess because I don’t want my brows to look scary. I usually start from the tip/end of my brows because that’s where the bulk of the colour goes and then I work my way to the top. By the time I get to the top, I have lesser product which is fine because it gives my brows a gradient effect which looks more natural. I then go in to conceal or neaten the edges and that’s all for my brows.

Cost//Link
MAC products have never been cheap but they are very good quality and last for ages. This little tub retails for £15.50 which may sound super expensive at first. However, when you consider that Drug Store eyeliners like Rimmel and Maybelline retail for £8-£9 with less quality, I think the MAC offering may not be as expensive. I got mine in Duty free for £12.90 or so which is not a massive savings but it was easier for me to part with the money

Results
I absolutely love the results I get with MAC DipDown as it is so easy to use and you don’t have to be a pro to learn how to work with it. Before I got it, I used my Soap and Glory Brow Filling Pencil to outline and fill my brows. Then, I went in with Sleek Brow Kit powder to set everything and it was just taking too much time but now it’s all so straightforward. I don’t actually have to use my brow filling pencil but I just love using it as mentioned earlier. You can pretty much use just the MAC DipDown eyeliner gel for the brows alone. My brows last all day and they don’t move although I know they would if I rubbed them. If you want them to last longer, you can always add a brow powder to set it.

Overall Thoughts
I really enjoy using the MAC DipDown Fluid Eyeliner Gel and it has really changed my eyebrow game. I use it every day because I love the results I get with it. I am keen of maybe trying the black shade of this eyeliner because I love how easy this one applies. I may even consider using this tub for my eyeliner even though it is a dark brown colour. That’s all folks!!
