Elemis Skincare Routine (Guest Post)

Today is a pretty special blog post as it is the first Guest Post on my blog and I plan to do more. My lovely friend and flatmate has decided to share her favourite skincare products with us. I am sure you must have heard me mention her a few times on this blog and maybe seen her picture on a few occasions.

Remember my Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir and Peony and Blush Suede Fragrance--well, she bought those for me, isn't she a sweetheart?  She has really lovely skin although she never agrees when I say so but she does. One of the secrets to her skin, as she tells me, is the skincare routine and regimen she has stuck to for a while. She is a huge fan of Elemis which is perfect and works really well for her so I asked her to share with us her thoughts on these products. I do hope you enjoy this post and let us know what your favourite skincare product is. I would leave you to her able hands. You can leave her comments or questions below this post and she will reply. I have told her she needs to start her own blog but she keeps smiling and saying "Nah!!". Enjoy..

Guest Post- My favourite skincare products
I wish I could say that I have a huge selection of cleansers and toners on my bathroom shelf that I can dip into every now and again, but the truth is I only have two products that I have been using for the last year and a half or so. Let’s rewind a little bit to where my journey began. I have a pretty sensitive skin and suffer from eczema since I was about 12 years. I have tried lots of different products to find the one that agrees with my skin and would not cause any flare ups.

I am a big Jo Malone fan and swore by their skincare range until it was discontinued. Needless to say, this brought me great sadness. After many years of trying drugstore brands like Clean and Clear, Clearasil, Olay (the list goes on), I knew Jo Malone’s discontinuation of their skincare range meant I had to start the hunt for a new product all over again. Like any other desperate person that hears such news, I stocked up on my products before they disappeared off the shelves.

My quest for a new face wash and toner started off with Clarins. Since I have such sensitive skin, I was recommended to use the Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Shea Butter which is for dry/sensitive skin. I am not keen on cream cleansers due to my skin being particularly sensitive to a lot of creams and lotions but I decided to give it a shot. About a couple of months into using the cleanser, I had a break out /flare up which is very unusual to anything I have ever had. I had really dark spots covering most of my forehead (sort of like scars from a pimple) and it wasn’t pretty! I continued using the cleanser but it seemed to make it worse at times and other time,  it didn't do much to help control the breakouts. Clarins have a lot of great products that work for other people. I eventually decided it was high time to found another cleanser that would work for me. And VoilĂ !! I moved onto Elemis. It was purely by chance and a distant memory of one of my friend’s constantly going on about how good their products are.

How the Elemis Fresh Skin Clear Purifying Face Wash works for me
I chose the Elemis Fresh Skin Skin Clear Purifying Face Wash because I needed something that would help control my breakout. This particular range is aimed at teenagers and 20-somethings, who generally have sensitive skins prone to breakouts. The main things that I love about this product are the fact that it’s not a cream cleanser and you get a really good foaming effect. It leaves my skin feeling fresh, really clean, but not dry which is a difficult balance to strike. It also has a pleasant citrus-like smell which is pretty delicate and subtle.

When I began using it, I saw a big difference within a couple of days. The dark spots on my forehead were visibly fading which I found incredibly hard to believe. But other people also noticed so that’s a sure sign it wasn't my imagination. The Elemis Face Wash coupled with steaming my face weekly improved my skin quite dramatically and moreover, all the dark spots faded within about 4 – 5 weeks. I have to admit; it just brightens up my face! I do swear by this cleanser and it has remained my favourite for a while now. The retail price is around £13 for 100ml which makes it fairly affordable. I do feel that it would work on different skins and you don’t need to be a teen or in your early 20s.

How I use the Elemis Blancing Lavender Toner
Lavender toners are usually my go-to products because I feel they are safe and you pretty much know what to expect. The Elemis Balancing Lavender Toner is quite gentle and works well with the Freshskin Skin Clear Purifying Face Wash. I find it mild which is how I like my toners. It doesn't have any alcohol or other harsh chemicals so you don’t get that stinging sensation that you sometimes experience with other brands. The smell of lavender is always a great added bonus, which helps relax and clarify the mind. I feel the toner just adds to the fresh, clean feeling when I wash my face. I’ve been using it for just over a year now and I will definitely be sticking with it. Price wise, it’s a little bit on the expensive side retailing at around £22.50 for 200ml but I think it’s money well spent. You don’t need to use lots because of the spray/nozzle container so I find that it lasts quite long.

Overall Thoughts
I do plan to try out other Elemis products at some stage but for now these are the only two cleansing products on my bathroom shelf. They do a great job for my everyday cleansing and toning needs as well as on those occasions when I wear makeup and need a thorough removal! I hope you enjoyed this post and do tell me what skincare product you absolutely swear by?...xx

Biologique Recherche Facial Review

I have to say I feel really blessed to be given amazing opportunities to try out brands I have heard so much about and already love. I think I may have stumbled upon Biologique Recherche commonly known as BR from Caroline Hirons and I have seen the products featured on many magazines. Their most popular product P-50 Lotion is the product that drew me to the brand because I have read countless glowing reviews on its efficacy.  Anyway, I was kindly invited for a facial with the lovely Amie who is the Head of Brand Training for Biologique Recherche UK last week Friday.. I can't even describe how much I was looking forward to this facial. The thing with BR facials is that they are bespoke which means no two facials are the same because they are tailor designed for your skin. I am sure you all know the struggles I have with my skin especially with the dark blemishes and hyper pigmentation. I no longer have any active acne (thank God for that) but the after effects of my acne are still there. You can now understand how keen I was to get professional advice and recommendations for my skin.

Brief Overview of Biologique Recherche
The brand Biologique Recherche was founded 35 years ago by Yvan and Josette Allouche who were passionate about skincare and the human body in general. Yvan was a renowned Biologist while his wife Josette was a Physiotherapist and Professor of Osteopathy. They are both deceased now but their son Philippe is a Doctor and took over the business from his parents. The brand has since been making waves all over the world and many celebrities swear by this brand including Brad Pitt, Madonna, Sharon Stone, Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, etc. You can read more about the BR story here.  I particularly love products or brands that are created by professionals who understand the human body and the science behind how it functions. Initially when Biologique Recherche was created, it functioned like a research and development laboratory where amazing formulations were created for professionals who were dissatisfied with using regular and ineffective formulations. I am so happy that the brand BR branched out to make its line of products which produce outstanding results. I am sure you would have guessed by now that the first product that was created was the P 50 lotion which has still remained the brand's best seller after all these years.

One thing that stood out for me with BR products is that the products are made from ingredients that are completely naturally derived from botanical, marine and biological extracts. You can find some interesting extracts in their products such as placenta, colostrum, collagen, elastin, etc. (I know, I know!!).  They don't have the best smell/fragrance at all, in fact, some of them have really strong scents (smell) but that's because no fragrance or nasties have been included. You get pure active ingredients in high concentrations with the best achievable quality. They are all cool (cold) formulated which means no heat has been applied to the ingredients to make them mix faster. This way the original structure of these active ingredients are preserved which is why they work as effectively as they do.  What you see is what you get!  Their packaging is very simple and I love it so much because it takes me back to my university days when I spent a great deal of my time in the laboratory.

Biologique Recherche Facial- Intro
I popped over to the BR Training/Treatment room in EF Medispa Kensington London. The lovely Amie was there to welcome me and she made me feel really comfy.  The facial she offers is not open to the public but you can still get a BR Facial from the other beauty therapists who she has trained. You can visit the Biologique Recherche website for more information on where to get a BR facial and other treatments.  I believe BR Facials are also done in other spas and hotels so it is always handy to ask. However, if you are interested in trying out just the Biologique Recherche P 50 lotion or any other BR product, you can actually purchase them from any of their stockists listed here. I was seriously delighted to finally see BR products in flesh because it has been one of the most elusive beauty products as they are not sold in regular department stores (yet).

What happens before the BR Facial?
I have to mention this is my first major facial because I hardly every trust people with my face as a result of my acne/blemishes, etc. However, I knew Biologique Recherche was an amazing brand so I was willing to entrust my face and skin and I can tell you, I was not disappointed at all. Amie and I started off with a little chat about my skincare routine, skin type and skin concerns and I also completed a questionnaire outlining any medical, allergies or health conditions. She was really knowledgeable and I learnt a lot from her in the two hours I spent there. Soon, it was time for my facial and I got on the comfy spa bed and there was some relaxing music playing in the background.

What treatment/facial did I get?
She told me I was going to have MC110 and Remodelling Facial after she had analysed my skin. This Biologique Recherche MC110 aims to plump, brighten, purify and balance the skin while the remodelling machine lifts and tones the facial muscles. I was  really excited just listening to these benefits before the facial started. The best thing about this facial was Amie kept me informed at every stage of the facial and she kindly wrote down the names of all the products she used.

Stage 1- Makeup Removal and Cleansing
She started off with removing my makeup (yes, who even wears makeup when they are going to a spa--->only the crazy Liv). She took off my makeup so effectively using ascending and outward motions which I am definitely going to incorporate in my cleansing routine.  I liked that she cleansed not just my face but also my dĂ©colletage because the facial was going to focus on these areas. My skin really felt clean and smooth even before the main facial started.

Stage 2- The Welcome Massage
The next step was a welcome massage which focused on lymphatic drainage and it really helps you relax. She massaged the muscles of my face so well that I had to stop myself from sleeping. It was one of the most pleasant experiences because I could feel a change in the muscles in my face. I honestly felt like I could doze off but I didn't.

Stage 3- Exfoliating using the hero product- P-50 Lotion
The next step was the hero product which I have been dying to try- The Biologique Recherche P 50 Lotion which is designed to gently exfoliate the skin. One thing I really liked was her technique in applying it which I hope to channel. She did not apply it in one sweep rather she applied it in a pat and release motion over each section of  my face, neck and dĂ©colletage  and I believe this must be the best way to apply this product to get the full benefits.  he P 50 does have a strong smell but it did not tingle as badly as I thought it would. She even used it gently over my eyes and lips to exfoliate them and I am really surprised that it felt gentle. Amie mentioned that the P 50 is a gentle continuous formulated to use in the morning and evening to balance, hydrate and even the complexion.

Stage 4- The Boosting Treatment (MC110)
The next step was one of the main products of the facial and this is none other than the MC 110. It acts as a supplement to the P 50 and a booster to the skin.  It works by smoothing any irregularities on the face and redefining the structure of the face especially around its natural contours. She applied this booster in light patting ascending motions starting from the inner section of my face to the outer parts. I have to say her technique is really outstanding and I felt relaxed and in a proper zen place. She completed one side of my face first and showed me the mirror to see the difference. I was completed shocked because the side that had the welcome massage was visibly lifted especially around my eyes. Honestly, I have never seen anything like that at all. Then, she completed the rest of my face ready for the next stage of my facial.

Stage 5- Applying the Mask (Masque Vivant)
The next product was a mask to help seal everything in and prepare my face for the remodelling machine which I was very excited to experience. She used the Masque Vivant which is a balancing mask that brightens, tones and refreshes the complexion.  It is also designed to replenish and strengthen the skin's natural barrier while addressing specific skin conditions. It contains a high concentration of yeast, cucumber and witch hazel extracts which are amazing for keeping the skin clear and purified. It felt slightly tingly on the skin but it was not uncomfortable and she applied it with a brush which ensured all part of my skin was covered (except my eyes, of course). I have to say it does not have the best smell at all. It reminds me of Marmite which I like but having it on your face is a different kettle of fish. However, I am willing to enjoy the smell for the overall effect it had on my skin. Once the masque was applied, it was time to go under the remodelling machine.

Stage 6- The Face Remodelling Machine
The next stage was where the remodelling machine was used under the masque from the previous stage. The remodelling machine was used over the masque to enhance product penetration and increase the effectiveness and benefits of the masque. It is essentially a complex looking machine and this is where all the magic takes place. It uses state of the art bio electrotherapy which utilises four different currents including Galvanic, High Frequency, Medium Frequency and Electroporation. I am not going to lie when I realised the machine used currents, I was a bit scared. Thankfully, there was nothing to be afraid of and Amie really explained what reactions I may expect from the machine. The funny thing is it felt like a really tiny tingling sensation and it was not unpleasant at all. She alternated the currents as she worked on different parts of my skin and I think that really makes a difference. The face is made up of different parts and they do require different ways of handling. One of the sensations I did feel , especially when the current was around my cheeks, was an increase in saliva production. It was really strange and there was also a slight metallic taste in my mouth but she had told me about it so I was not too surprised. However, I honestly started feeling a difference to my face muscles. It's like my face was getting a workout; that's the only way I can describe it that makes sense. When the session was over, she removed the masque with cold water and in fact, all the products applied on my face were removed with cold water.

Stage 7- Treatment with a cocktail of quintessential serums
Once the remodelling face session was done, Amie prepared a cocktail of quintessential serums for my face. She chose the Serums Placenta and Extrait Tissulaire as these were the best for my skin type. The BR Serum Placenta is ideal for use after exfoliation and it aids with acne scarring. The Serum Extrait Tissulaire helps in moisturising the skin and creates a luminous skin. She finished off with a Creme VIP O2 and another Finishing Serum was the VIP O2 and viola!! It was the end of the most amazing facial I have ever had.

Results
I have to say in the past few months, my skin has seen tremendous improvements which was absent for many years. I no longer have any breakouts but I still have my blemishes which are slowly but surely fading. After the bespoke BR Facial I had, my skin was so radiant and glowing in a way that I had never seen or experienced. The texture was visibly smoother and my face felt super firm. My face appeared slimmer which may be as a result of the new firmness I had. I was so happy with the results I was seeing in the mirror. I never go for outings or meetings without my makeup but for the first time (in many years), last Friday, I ventured out without any makeup (I did not even do my brows). If you have always had amazing skin, you would not understand why it is such a big deal to people who have acne or blemishes and shy away from going makeup free every day. I even brought my makeup bag to reapply my makeup because I had two meetings with two beauty brands I love and I wanted to look my best. I went for these meetings without any scrap of makeup and I felt super confident all through the day. The best part is my skin still feels amazing after the facial (one week after)  as it's a treatment that works deep within the skin as opposed to just the surface. In the picture above I have no scrap of makeup and my skin looked and felt radiant. While my blemishes are still on show, the texture of my skin felt super soft, smooth and radiant as you can tell (I hope)

Cost
I am sure this is the moment you all are waiting for and you know many good things come with a high price tag. The facial costs £250 if you want to have the remodelling face machine treatment included. Yes, it is a huge sum of money but I see myself paying to have it done again for a special occasion or at least once a year. I am pretty sure I spend more money than £250 on many things that don't provide me with the same experience I got. I believe it is slightly cheaper without the remodelling machine but I highly recommend experiencing the remodelling machine even if it is once. You can book for a BR Facial here and they offer a wide range of facials and treatments. As mentioned earlier, Amie does not do facials for members of the public but she has trained all the other beauty therapists so they are more than equal to the task. A little bird told me that BR Facials will soon be available in Birmingham so keep your eyes peeled for an update.

If you are not keen or ready for a facial just yet, there is a wide range of BR products to choose from and I believe you can request for consultation to help you with product choices. I know I would be repurchasing majority of the products Amie used on me. BR is also kindly sending me some products to try (which were used in my facial) and I can't wait to review them . I am most excited to try the P 50 lotion which has been on my wish list for ages.

Overall thoughts
I hope it does not sound cheesy to say that the BR Facial I received was life changing for me. It really was for me and I believe it's the beginning of many amazing things to come in my clear skin journey. My face still feels very smooth and soft. I have continued using my Foreo Luna Mini which has also been instrumental in keeping my skin sane and supple. A big thank you to Imagination PR for organising the BR Facial for me and of course to the lovely Amie and Biologique Recherche for having me. Have you tried the BR Facial or any BR products?
*The BR Facial was complimentary and all opinions are mine as always.

August 2015 Favourites

I feel like I have neglected this blog for so long and I have really missed blogging. It's been almost a week since I last blogged which is insane as I used to blog almost everyday (or 4-5 times a week). I have been incredibly busy and feeling slightly overwhelmed with a lot of things. Anyway, I have planned a chatty post which should go up by the weekend or so. However, I feel energised now and I have planned a lot of posts to go up for the rest of the month (fingers crossed I stick to my schedule). Although I was not blogging on the blog, I was very active on Instagram -@Fashstyleliv so make sure you are following me as I post all many photos that don't make it on here.

August was definitely one of my favourite months because I got to meet many amazing people, tried many new products and worked with some brands I love. Most of all, I attended a few amazing events and I always feel thankful that I am given the opportunity to go. I discovered quite a few new favourites this month and I am excited to share them on here + full reviews will be up for the rest of the month. Right let's just dive in....

Foreo Luna Mini* //£99// Link // Review
I have been testing out a lot of skincare this month and my skin has been on its best behaviour all through this month. The Foreo Luna Mini has definitely played a huge role and I am so pleased I got a chance to try it. It looks like such a simple device but you would never imagine how effective it is. I have not skipped using it since I received it and it is now a super staple in my skincare routine. If you have any issues with acne or you can't seem to cleanse your skin properly, I highly suggest trying it out. It is very pricey but it is absolutely worth it and I have not heard anyone complain about it breaking them out.

Pixi Glow Tonic // £18 // Link // Review
I have repurchased the Pixi Glow Tonic because it is one toner that actually works so well for my skin. I find that not every toner or product that contains Glycolic Acid works in the same way as this does. I think it may be down to the way the other ingredients work with each other that makes it such a unique and effective product. Again, if you suffer from acne or acne scarring, this is one product that will have very positive effects on your skin. It also brightens the complexion and gives the skin such a luminous glow that we all love.

Fake Bake Beauty Skin D-Luxe Cleansing Melt* // £15 // Link
I have a review for this Cleansing Melt coming soon but I have to talk about it because it is amazing. It is very similar to the Clinique Take the Day off Balm but I do prefer the smell of this one. It smells so lovely but it does such an amazing job at taking off my makeup. I love using it especially on days when I go out or I am very busy as it leaves my skin very soft unlike when I use some wipes and/or micellar water. I had no idea I would love it as much as I did but I really do!!

Ark Skincare Skin Pefector Hydration Injection Mask* // £35 // Link
This is another new skincare product for me but I absolutely love it. I save it for my pamper days or days when my skin is looking a little worse for wear. I love the texture and the way it applies on my skin because it looks exactly like a balm but it works as a balm. It smells like what they would use in a spa and somehow, that makes me feel very relaxed. Once it is on the skin, you can feel its hydrating effect immediately and when you wash it off, you are left with amazing soft skin. I would do a full review soon so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Body Shop African Ximenia Body Scrub*// £18 //Link
I am sure everyone must be sick of seeing the Body Shop Spa of the World range on social media ad everywhere you look but they are seriously incredible. They smell so delicious and it is very hard to step away from the testers in-store. The African Ximenia Scrub has to be one of the best I have tried so far. The texture is so spot on as it does not feel too smooth or too rough (grainy) and it smells so delicious. I would be reviewing the products I was sent as I have been testing it out (and enjoying them) all for a little while now.

YSL Baby Doll Mascara // £25 // Link// Review
This is hands down the best mascara I have tried and I have sang its praises a lot. I love the way it hugs my little lashes and gives them a curl, length and volume all in one sweep. I have mentioned this a lot but my lashes are short so I need a mascara that does it all for them to look lovely. I recently repurchased this in a gift set which came with a smaller sample (for travelling) and a black Kohl which I am excited to try.

By Terry Cover Expert Foundation// £45 // Link // Review (on sale in Space NK)
I reviewed this foundation earlier this year and I loved it although I did not have my exact shade. However, Space NK had another sales this year and I was able to purchase my exact shade which make me very delighted. I have fallen back in love with it and I have even mixed both shades and it looked amazing. I think one appreciates the full effect of a foundation when you have your exact shade or a very close one. I am also currently trying the Light Expert Click Brush which I attended the launch so expect a review soon. I have done a massive haul from By Terry which will be up soon (fingers crossed I have good lighting to take some shots). I am really loving the brand even more especially after I attended the launch and learnt more about the founder of the brand.

Lanolips Antibacterial Hand cream// £10 // Link
The good thing about trying new products from brands is that you get to discover other amazing products from the brand. I was sent the Lanolips Lip Balm* which is one of the best I have ever tried. I decided to go into Boots and see what else the brands had in stock. They had these hand creams which are also antibacterial and I just purchased one to try. I really like the slim packaging and I think it looks cute. When I tried it out, I went straight back and purchased three more because I am completely obsessed with them. It makes my hands soft and smell so lovely. I thought they would have a dodgy smell seeing that they are anti-bacterial but it is quite the opposite. You do need to have a little swatch when next you are in Boots.

L'Oreal Gentle Eye Makeup Remover// £2.33 // Link // Review
I have already spoken about this little gem over here but it had to be in my favourites. I have to say it has quickly become the best drug store eye makeup remover for me. It used to be the Rimmel Let it Go Eye Makeup remover which I still love but the L'Oreal one ticks all the boxes for me. It is such an amazing inexpensive eye makeup remover and works like it is a high end one. It does not feel greasy or too wet and it takes off my eye makeup really well even naughty waterproof eye makeup. I can't believe it took me so long to discover it but I would be purchasing quite a few backups especially when there are offers.

Overall Thoughts
That's pretty much it for this month. It was indeed a skin care month for me and I ended the month with an incredible facial from Biologique Recherche* which I would be reviewing tomorrow. I am so happy August is done and dusted and we are looking forward to more amazing things in September. I am off to an event later today with Ultimo at House of Fraser* and I am really excited to see their new collection. I am sure I would blog about it soon so you can see some pictures. I hope you had an amazing month and I will catch you in my next post...xx
